Mud barge

The load capacity range of the mud barge is about 50-2000 tons, which can be used in conjunction with floating platform excavators, grab dredgers, and chain bucket dredgers for temporary storage and transfer of mud and sand. It is widely used in dredging projects in inland rivers, lakes, and offshore areas.

General Description

A mud barge is a type of barge used in conjunction with a dredger to transport excavated sediment. According to the type of power, it can be divided into self-propelled and non self-propelled. According to the structural form, it can be divided into various types such as open bottom, open edge, and sealed bottom. The capacity of mud tanks on mud barges will be classified according to different levels, and the carrying capacity of mud barges is usually between 50 and 2000 tons.

Main categories

There are different types of mud barges designed according to different needs:

  • Bottom sealing mud barge:

There is no mud compartment door at the bottom of the ship, and sediment discharge is carried out by cooperating with a dredger.

  • Open bottom mud barge:

There are one or two rows of square mud hatch doors at the bottom of the cabin, which can be opened to automatically unload mud.

  • Side opening mud barge:

Two rows of mud doors are set up at the lower part of the ship’s side, and a triangular air buoyancy chamber is installed at the center axis of the ship, suitable for sediment discharge in shallow water areas.

  • Split mud barge:

Composed of the left and right halves of the hull hinged at the head and tail ends, it can automatically rotate and unload mud around the longitudinal axis according to the relative position of the center of gravity and the center of buoyancy. Simple structure and large cabin capacity.

  • Self-propelled mud barges:

Usually open bottomed, with high freeboard and wind resistance. Some mud barges are also equipped with self-propelled power devices on top of ordinary mud barges.

Mud barges are specialized vessels used for effective transportation and disposal of mud and sand, providing supporting facilities for dredgers. They play an important role in water engineering, dredging engineering, and earthwork engineering.
